Dracula myth - a pretext for promoting Transylvania

The world is full of old edifices, museums, palaces, castles, fortifications, monuments, but for the most of the visitors, they have little meanings because the tourists’ knowledge regarding the local history and culture may be minimal.

Building a story around a sightseeing is the best strategy for revival an worn-out tourism product or highlighting an unknown or not very popular tourism destination. As a consequence, such strategy  generates the customers'  curiosity and interest to get acquainted  with that story directly from the source.

Despite the fact that Romanians consider the Dracula vampire character being not authentic and representative for their culture and  refuse to accept it as part of the country's brand, they cannot completely give it up because it exerts a huge fascination among the foreign visitors.

As a result, all the Dracula’s tourist products encompass not only the visit to Dracula/Bran Castle in Transylvania, but also the visits to other important Romanian sights as the middle-aged castles from Transylvania and the Saxons towns located in the same region: Brasov, Sighisoara and Sibiu. Therefore Dracula myth becomes the pretext for marketing Romanian sights which otherwise would remain unknown for international tourists.

As an illustration, I added few of the photos taken during my trip to Brasov, the  Dracula (Bran) Castle nearest big town, which has become a must for all the visitors who planned a travel in Transylvania.

Brasov town - situated in the central part of Romania and surrounded by Carpathians Mountains was first time  mentioned by the historical sources in 1235, when the Saxon colonists settled there. The town is among the most appreciated  destinations in Romania because its  tourism offer comprises the medieval town vestiges with very good opportunities for skiing & trekking. So the amateurs of winter sports can find out in this area, modern winter resorts such as Poiana Brasov, Predeal and Sinaia situated in the immediate vicinity of Brasov.

They provide a wide range of outdoor activities starting with mountain climbing, skiing and snowboarding, continuing with horse riding and ending up with roller skating. If you want to feel the atmosphere of middle-age epoch, pass through the well preserved  Old City dominated by Council House edifice built in 1420, stop and visit the Black Church, the landmark of the town, built in 1477 , named in such way  because it was blackened by smog in a fire from 1689, The St.Nicholas Church -built in 14th century, The Orthodox Cathedral erected in 1858 and so forth(inserted in the above-presented photos).
